Recto: "Solon M. Allis - Dec. - Cu.K. 27. Mass. // No 3 // 32 Pounder on Jamestown Road [VA]. This gun is manned by members of Co. D, 27th Mass - Corporal List 3rd NY acting gunner. He has made some splendid shots bursting shells inside the Rebel Batteries at the right and left of the House on Hill in the distance. At the right of platform is seen the Bomb proof into which the men retire when shells grow thick."
